Following the player-pitch game between Tigers Cervignano and Ghajnsielem Redcoats on Friday afternoon, the two teams played a shortened coach pitch game, which the girls and boys from Gozo are so familiar with.

The players seemed transformed and started hitting the baseball with relative ease. Abigail Camilleri led off with a single, and then Chris Mercieca hit a fly ball to deep left field for an inside-the-park 2-run home run. This was followed by a line drive double to centre field by Gilbert Scicluna.

In the bottom of the inning Chris Mercieca did what he does best, he fielded ground balls and made great throws to 1st base. He also caught a line drive and made a great throw to the 1st baseman Gilbert Scicluna to catch the Tigers’ base runner off 1st base for a game ending double play.

The girls and boys were ecstatic with their performance and they were very much looking forward to their coach-pitch softball game which was scheduled for early the following morning against Softball School at that same field in Cervignano.

After the game the players and coaches distributed Visit Gozo gifts to the members of the Tigers team in order to promote Gozo as a tourist destination.
