Joudrs Softball Fields: August 1, 2017 – 15:00 to 20:00
All good things come to an end. The final day of the joint softball training camp of the Ghajnsielem Redcoats with SK Joudrs Praha was certainly the most enjoyable. It started with a two hour session with a sport psychologist who worked on improving communication, team work, and self-confidence for the players through various activities. This helped both sets of players to get familiar with each other. There was also a shortened session of team defence for both teams. The much anticipated exhibition games concluded the training camp.
Although the Redcoats lost both the two games played, the scores of 4-6 and 3-4 were very respectable. The pitching was very good with Estelle Scicluna and Denise Xuereb pitching the 1st and the 2nd game respectively. Fielding was also an improvement over the performances to close the season way back in February. All the players took part with those who did not start the opener playing the 2nd game. This was the first game ever for the three youngest members of the team; Laragh Tabone, Monique Attard and Paula Buttigieg. All three of them performed particularly well with Monique Attard even managing a put-out and an assist while playing at 2nd base in the last game.
After the game SK Joudrs Praha players organised a farewell BBQ for the Redcoats. Most of the parents of the Joudrs players as well as their coaches expressed their wish to visit Gozo for a training camp or tournament in the near future. This turned out to be another productive trip for the youth softball players of the club and a very memorable experience. All of the players who travelled to Prague are looking forward to the next trip which is scheduled for July 2018.
