INCLUSION AT MULTISPORT OPEN DAY

May 10, 2017 – Olympia Haarlem Sports Facilities

The 2nd transnational meeting for the partners of the Erasmus+ Sports project IGETS started with an Open Day which the host club, Olympia Haarlem, organised for the children from the community around the facilities of the organisation. This activity had several objectives. The organisers wanted to introduce the club to the children who live in the neighbourhood. They also wanted to encourage the children not just to be physically active, but to participate in more than one sport. Another important objective was to encourage children coming from different ethnic groups to take up a sport as a means to integrate with the community. As part of the project IGETS, Olympia Haarlem is actively working to have inclusive policies and to encourage diversity at their club among their members as well as part of the administration.

The capacity building activities planned for the Haarlem meetings started with watching an exhibition softball game of the Dutch Softball national team against a selection of players from Haarlem. This was extremely interesting as well as important for the partners as it provided a glimpse of how one of the best softball national teams in Europe tries to improve collectively as a team as well as improve the individual players. The game was held at the softball field of DSS, another softball club based in Haarlem which also competes in the Dutch Softball Golden League.
