SOFTBALL FASTPITCH WINTER TOURNAMENT – GAME 2

The 3 game winning streak of the women’s fastpitch softball team was halted today as the Ghajnsielem Redcoats lost game 2 of the best-of-5 series at the hands of the Mellieha Curves. A 5-run 1st inning characterised by poor fielding set up the loss for the Redcoats who did not hit the ball very well today.
Despite a bad 3rd inning Estelle Scicluna registered another solid performance striking out 9 Curves and throwing 76% of her pitches for strikes. Gianella Mallia also stood out in the loss, making good contact with the ball and also came up with a couple of nice defensive play. Denise Xuereb once again delivered another selfless performance at catcher. Despite suffering a bad knock on her knee in the 3rd inning she continued to play with severe pain. Yana Vella pitched an inning of relief and did very well.
Well done to the Curves who fought hard and at the end did enough to deserve the victory. The two teams meet again on Sunday, February 19, for Game 3 at the Sannat Ground.
