RECAP

Right from the start of the second game of the doubleheader the Redcoats looked in trouble. With pitcher Marlene Saliba literally limping as her injured right knee was in much pain the morale of the rest of the team dropped. Whereas in the first game Marlene walked 3 batter in 6 innings in the second game she walked 7 Curves in 5 innings. The Curves took full advantage of the situation scoring 10 unanswered runs in the first 4 innings. The bats of the Redcoats went silent as well, managing only 5 hits to score a lonely run in the bottom of the 4th.

With the Maltese U/17 national team scheduled to play against Gozo at 1pm, there was also a time constraint. Although, down by 9 runs with 2 innings to go the Redcoats could still technically get back in the game to tie it or even win it. However, the chances of doing so were very slim, especially considering that Marlene was in much pain. As a result at the end of the 5th inning the Redcoats asked the Umpire, Mr Steve Sexton to call the game. Given the circumstances the Redcoats couldn’t do better than they did. The experience gathered during these two games should serve them well for the rest of the season.
