The second round of the Softball Division of the Gozo Baseball & Softball League got off with two highly entertaining games and one dramatic finish at the Sannat Ground this Saturday.

For the second time in as many games, the Leinster Royals registered a dramatic walk-off win, beating the Connaught Rangers 3-2 after trailing 0-2. In the other game of week 4, the 31st Athletics managed to see off the 63rd Reds 9-4 blowing the encounter wide open in the bottom of the 5th inning scoring 4 runs.

The second round of the Softball Division of the Gozo Baseball & Softball League got off with two highly entertaining games and one dramatic finish at the Sannat Ground this Saturday. After looking so sharp a week ago in the two games played at the Gozo Stadium, the bats of the Connaught Rangers went silent managing just five hits in six innings. Still, they were leading by two runs in the middle of the 4th inning. They, however, conceded a run in each of the final three innings and lost in heartbreaking fashion 2-3 to the Royals.

Despite the 4-9 loss to the 31st Athletics and their 1-3 record, the 63rd Reds played a very good game and showed that they have what it takes to upset any of the other three teams in the Softball Division, on their day. This Saturday they played against a solid 31st Athletics team that practically could do no wrong. The Reds’ thirteen base hits over six innings were not enough, as the Athletics were almost impeccable defensively, committing just a single error.

Week 5, scheduled for Saturday, November 8, at the Sannat Ground, will feature the Royals at the Athletics, with both teams coming off victories. With a win, the Royals will practically clinch first place in the Softball Division and secure home field advantage throughout the post season. Should the Athletics manage to upset the Royals, both teams would carry a 3-wins-2-losses record going into the final week of the regular season, but the Athletics would be in control of their own destiny.

The other game features the Rangers at the Reds with both teams looking to recover from disappointing losses in week 4. The Reds are desperate to improve on their 1-win-3-losses record as they attempt to finish the regular season on a high and move off last place. The Rangers still have an outside shot to top the Division but need to win their last two remaining games and hope that the Royals drop their final two.

Should the performances continue to improve as they have so far over the eight games played in the Softball Division, we should be in for another couple of entertaining games.
