HOSTS OVERCOME THE REDCOATS
Following the defeat against Novi Sad on Day 1, the Redcoats were left with a mountain to climb as they had to face the tournament hosts, Europa Baseball Club, early on Saturday morning.
There was a general improvement in the performance of the Redcoats, however, this was not enough as Europa proved to be too strong for the visitors. The Redcoats did manage to score 2 runs in the 1st inning which later proved to be costly for the hosts as the run difference was a tie breaker to decide 1st place in the group. The final score was 2-15 for Europa.
The play of the game was definitely the double play in the first inning courtesy of a line drive caught by 2nd baseman Michael Xuereb who promptly stepped on 2nd base catching the Europa baserunner off 2nd. Thanks to this play Europa only scored three runs in the opening inning.
