The Ghajnsielem Redcoats and the Mellieha Cubs U13 baseball teams played a double header on Thursday morning in Mellieha organised by the Malta Baseball & Softball Association.
The first game featured the mixed team of the Redcoats and the Mellieha Cubs. The more experienced Redcoats had an outstanding game registering several hits and making many high quality defensive plays. Despite having several new players on the team the Cubs did well even registering a triple play in the top of the 4th inning that prevented the Redcoats from scoring any runs during that inning.
The all-girls’ baseball team of the Redcoats took on the Cubs in the second game. Once again the Redcoats who featured several players who have been playing this sport for many years, were quite impressive both defensively and offensively. There were many extra base hits for the girls in red. Despite finding it difficult to score runs due to several excellent plays of the infielders of the Redcoats, the Cubs finished the game well scoring six runs in the final two innings.
The next such double header is scheduled for later on this month in Ghajnsielem.
