This is a massive honour for this young club and a great boost for its efforts to increase the popularity of baseball and softball in Gozo.

During a press conference, held on Friday, February 13, at Vini & Capricci in Gozo, it was announced that after an absence of 13 years, the Gozo Sports Board is organising the Gozo Sports Awards as a worthy and appropriate appreciation for those who work hard to achieve their goals, as well as to those who help others gain their success.

The sports clubs and asscoiations themselves nominated and voted for the best athletes, men and women, the most promising youths, the most successful teams in Gozo last year, as well as an award to honour a deserving official who gave so much for others.

The awards presentations will take place at the Gozo Sports Complex on Saturday, the 28th of February at 7.30pm, under the patronage of the Minister for Gozo, Dr Anton Refalo, with the collaboration of Vini & Capricci and Lord Chambray.

The Chairman of the Gozo Sports Awards Executive Committee, Joe Bajada announced the finalists.

The Ghajnsielem Redcoats youth team who was crowned national champions by winning the MABS Youth Baseball Major League in 2014 was nominated for Team of the Year. Estelle Scicluna one of the outstanding performers on that team and Most Valuable Player of that league was finalist for the Promising Youth – Female award. Redcoats founder and coach, Joseph Scicluna, was nominated for the Official of the Year award.
