The objective of the Gozo Baseball & Softball League is to help the youths enrolled with the Ghajnsielem Redcoats to gain experience playing this wonderful game.
The inaugural game of the Softball Division organised by the Gozo Baseball & Softball League took place at the Sannat Ground this past Saturday. The 31st Athletics registered a highly entertaining walk-off 8-7 victory over the 63rd Reds. There were five lead changes in the game as both teams were determined to come on top. In the second game, the Leinster Royals outperformed the Connaught Rangers and recorded a comfortable 5-3 win.
There were four youths who were playing their first ever competitive game and they all did especially well. Several of those who joined half way through last season played with much confidence contributing positively with the bat as well as with the glove. The objective of the Gozo Baseball & Softball League is to help the youths enrolled with the Ghajnsielem Redcoats to gain experience playing this wonderful game. It is for this reason that competitions similar to the Softball Division will be organised to ensure that the youths will play at least one competitive game per week.
This coming Saturday, October 25, the competition will shift to the lush green of the Gozo Stadium. Two doubleheaders will take place. At 13:15 the 31st Athletics will host the Connaught Rangers, and the Leinster Royals will host the 63rd Reds. At 14:30 the Royals will host the Athletics and the Rangers will host the Reds. These four games will complete the first round of the regular season of the Softball Division and will provide us with an indication of who will be the early favourites of this new competition.
