The ACTIVE START session which featured seven fun games in just over 60 minutes had the young participants think while they engage in vigorous physical activity.
Saturday, October 11, 2014 will be remembered in the history of the Ghajnsielem Redcoats for the achievements on and off the field.
The glorious day started with 17 boys and girls, aged between 4 and 6 years old, having loads of fun during their second session of ACTIVE START – YOUNG MULTISPORT ATHLETES. This session which featured seven fun games in just over 60 minutes had the young participants think while they engage in vigorous physical activity. The highlight of the session was most certainly the TAG game as the boys and girls chased each other to remove the tags of their fellow participants while trying to avoid having their own tag removed. Session 3 will be next Saturday also at the Gozo Stadium between 9am and 10am.
Within minutes of the end of the session, the paperwork and formalities that more or less secure the future of the Ghajnsielem Redcoats were being finalised. The details of the agreements reached will be communicated in the not so distant future.
To cap a most memorable day, in the scorching heat at the Sannat Ground about forty U/15 boys and girls turned out for the final tryout session preceding the start of the Softball Division of the Gozo Baseball and Softball League. What made the intensive session one to remember, was not the record turnout but the fact that the several quality new recruits are showing signs that they are already as good as many of the more experienced players on the youth squad. This season the youth squad has been boosted by the addition of coaches Steve Ellis, George Grech, Loreto Scicluna and Josef Cutajar. This has made it possible for the Club to have four youth teams practicing at the same time and competing in the Softball Division. Efforts will be made to further strengthen the coaching staff of the Redcoats during the course of the season.
Next up for the Club is the start of the Softball Division, which will be made up of four evenly balance and competitive teams. WEEK 1 of this new competition will take place at the Sannat Ground this coming Saturday, October 18 starting at 1:30pm.
