At the end of Game Day 2, all three teams can win the preliminary group stage. However, the Connaught Rangers and the Leinster Royals can control their own destiny.  The Rangers need to win their final two games, while the Royals need to beat the Rangers. On the other hand, the 31st Athletics need the Rangers to defeat the Royals in the first game of the doubleheader on Wednesday, July 16. They have to then go on to beat the Rangers in the final game of the preliminary group stage of the tournament to clinch first place. The team that tops the group gets a bye to the final, whereas the other two teams would have to face each other in a playoff for the right to contest the first ever final of the Gozo Cup.
