Redcoats drop 2 in Mellieha but impress!

This afternoon the women’s team lost both games in the doubleheader at the Mellieha Ground against the Curves but travelled back to Gozo with their heads held high as they showed remarkable improvement from the double reversal at the Gozo Stadium a month ago.

In the 1st game the Ghajnsielem Redcoats lost 1-5 but were a continuous threat to the experienced Curves with Kacey Grima going 3-for-4 with the only RBI of the game. Kacey’s mother, Michelle, also had a strong game going 2-for-3 with a double.

Congratulations to the Curves and their Manager Keith Bartolo along with Coach Clint Grima.

In the 2nd game the Redcoats lost 0-2 conceding a lone run in the bottom of the 4th and another in the bottom of the 6th inning. Redcoats’ pitcher Marlene Saliba had an outstanding game although playing injured. So did young Jasmine Bonnici making several key outs including a double play to end the 4th inning.

Kacey Grima and Michelle Grima continued where they left off in the 1st game with both of them smashing the ball to the outfield. Kacey went 2-for-3 while Michelle hit a triple in the 4th inning with one out. This was not enough, however, as three batters later with the bases loaded she was thrown out at home plate.

With these two victories the Curves have now clinched the MABS Women’s Softball Championship Series and the National Championship 2013/14. Congratulations to the Curves and their Manager Keith Bartolo along with Coach Clint Grima.

Next appointment for the Redcoats’ women’s team is on January 12th for Games 5 and 6 in Gozo, at the Sannat Ground. Well done Redcoats! Keep it up.
