SUMMER SPORTS 2016

These sessions will provide an opportunity to the participants to improve their sports specific skills in preparation for the upcoming season

Once again the Ghajnsielem Redcoats are organising a summer sports programme that covers three sports – BASE HITS (baseball/softball), FIRST HOOPS (basketball), and KICK START (football) for children 6 years and older. The sessions will be held at the playground of the Għajnsielem Primary School on Mondays and Thursdays from 5pm till 6:30pm.

Coaches Charles Attard, Steve Ellis, and Joseph Scicluna, with the assistance of Estelle Scicluna will be responsible for the BASE HITS sessions on Mondays starting on June 27, 2016. The objective of these sessions will be to improve the fundamental baseball skills of batting, throwing, fielding and base running. There will be efforts to get the participants more familiar with how the game is played.

Coach Ruben Mercieca will conducted the FIRST HOOPS and KICK START sessions on Thursdays with the assistance of Joseph Scicluna. Similarly for FIRST HOOPS the focus will be on learning how to dribble the ball, passing and shooting. The participants will also play a short mini-basket game at the end of each session so that they will gradually learn how the game is played. During the KICK START sessions the objective will be to help the participants to improve their coordination, football technique, and general movements. Each session will finish with small sided games.

In the meantime, the youth softball team will continue with their regular late Saturday afternoon practice sessions in preparation for their training camp in the Netherlands scheduled for July.

These summer programmes will provide an opportunity to the participants to improve their sports specific skills in preparation for the upcoming season.
