As was the case in the previous two weekends in the doubleheaders played in Marsa and Mellieha respectively, the Redcoats played much better in the second game than they did in the opener. In their second game in Ghajnsielem, the Redcoats scored five runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and continued to score additional runs in each of the remaining innings until the 5th inning when once again another five runs crossed home plate to put the game beyond reach for the Luxol Mustangs at 14-0.

This was the first shut-out registered by any team in the league this season, which is an indication of the improved fielding by the Redcoats. There were some fine defensive plays with Denise Xuereb, Ryan Grech and Rebecca Grech all making important put-outs and along with Estelle Scicluna and Gianella Mallia continued to frustrate the Mustangs.

Daphne Cassar was swinging the bat really well and had 3 hits in her 3 appearances at the plate, while Jeremy Grech stayed sizzling hot with 3 hits from 4 at bats scoring 3 runs and batting in 2 runs. Daniel Borg also contributed with a base hit and a run batted in.

The Redcoats now top the standings and need to beat the Verdala Falcons once in the doubleheader scheduled for this coming Sunday, December 12, in Ghajnsielem to clinch the Softball National Championship at youth level.
