This tournament will be the first experience for the youth softball players participating in a high level international competition

This July the Għajnsielem Redcoats softball team will participate in the prestigious XXIV Memorial Civelli International Softball Tournament, at Castions Delle Mura, near Venice, Italy. Some of the best youth softball teams from northern Italy will participate in this competition along with high profile teams from the Czech Republic. The Italian National team will also participate in preparation for the European Championship.

This will be the second experience for the Club participating in a tournament at Castions Delle Mura. In 2017, the Redcoats U13 baseball team competed in the XXVI Memorial Federico Zuttion International Youth Baseball Tournament and despite not winning a game, the team earned the respect of organisers and the opponents with their tenacity and never say die attitude.

The Redcoats will play four group games in two days followed by the placing final. There will be ten teams split into two groups of five. The top team in each group will contest the final. This tournament will be the first experience for the youth softball players participating in a high level international competition. The excellent achievement of last summer winning the IGETS Triangular Tournament held in Zagreb provides the team with confidence that they can be a match for top European teams.

Preparations for the tournament are already underway with flights and accommodation arrangements already sorted out. The practices for the players will intensify in May and June leading up to the tournament itself. The team will fly out on Wednesday, July 3rd and return the following Wednesday.
