This was an excellent opportunity to have the young athletes try out different sports and to promote the idea of participating in more than one sport with children and their parents
The Ghajnsielem Local Council organised a Sports Day for children 4 to 11 years old at the Ghajnsielem Football Ground on Saturday, December 12, 2015. The Ghajnsielem Redcoats along with Ghajnsielem F.C. helped out to make it a resounding success.
Several stations were set up, with basketball hoops, mini-volley, an obstacle course, a tug-of-war rope, a track for a pursuit relay race, a penalty shoot-out, as well as an area for bocci, with coaches supervising each station. Around sixty boys and girls attended the event. The children were split into groups by age and ability and they moved from one station to the other. The Ghajnsielem Local Council also supplied apples and water for the participant.
This was an excellent opportunity to have the young athletes try out different sports and to promote the idea of participating in more than one sport with children and their parents. From the feedback of the children as well as the positive comments of their parents one can safely say that, although this was the first such event organised in Ghajnsielem, it turned out to be a success.
It is hoped that the Ghajnsielem Local Council will organise such sports activities on a regular basis.
