The 63rd Reds put on a batting show with 18 hits to overpower the Leinster Royals and against all odds win 12-5.
The 63rd Reds were coming from a five game losing streak to finished the regular season last with just one win coming in the first game. On the other hand, the Leinster Royals had a 4-wins-and-2-losses record and topped the Softball Division at the end of the regular season. They also managed to beat the same Reds twice, 8-7 and 7-6 respectively. As a result, the Royals were overwhelmingly favoured to overcome the Reds in the 1st Round of the Softball Post Season Tournament of the Gozo Baseball & Softball League.
The 63rd Reds put on a batting show with 18 hits to overpower the Leinster Royals and against all odds win 12-5. Still the Reds committed too many fielding errors and this might be their undoing later on in their tournament. They will now face the 31st Athletics on December 8, with the winner proceeding to the tournament final whereas the loser will get a second chance in a decider against the winner of the other 2nd Round game between the Royals and the Rangers.
Despite the loss the Leinster Royals will start as favourites in their second round game against the Connaught Rangers having beaten them twice in the regular season in a game where the loser gets eliminated and plays in the final for 3rd and 4th place. The winner plays a decider on the same day against the loser of the game between the Athletics and the Reds.
The excitement is certainly building up as this tournament is moving to the final rounds. The quality is also improving with several players performing much better than they did at the start of the season. Most importantly everyone involved is having a great time while playing their favourite sport.
