BASEBALL 5 FOR YEAR 9 STUDENTS

036

The Ghajnsielem Redcoats continued to tour the schools at the Gozo College raising awareness about inclusion and gender equality as part of the Erasmus+ Sports: Small Collaborative Partnerships project IGETS.

Last Monday the Redcoats were at the Gozo College Secondary School and spent the entire morning introducing Baseball 5 to every class of Year 9. This was part of a Sports Day organised by the PE Department of the school.

Redcoats coach, Joseph Scicluna was assisted by several Redcoats Softball players who attend the school. Once again the session was very productive with several students out of well over a hundred who spent about 20 minutes playing Baseball 5 showing great potential, with a few who were also interested in joining the softball team of the Club. Baseball 5 was selected as no equipment whatsoever is required to play the game. All that is necessary is a rubber ball and an area of about 18m square. Baseball 5 is an inclusive game where both genders have an opportunity to exhibit their athletic abilities on a level playing field.

The Redcoats would like to thank Mr Mark Buttigieg, Head of Physical Education, Gozo College, for the invitation to participate in the sports day. Next Monday it will be the turn of Year 10 students to experience Baseball 5.

IGETS is co-financed by the European Union. The Ghajnsielem Redcoats received assistance from the Ministry of Education and Employment through the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Sport & Voluntary Organisations to meet its co-financing obligations.
