RECAP

In game 6 of the MABS Softball Championship Series the bats of the Redcoats finally came alive scoring 2 runs in the 1st, 5 runs in the 2nd, another 2 runs in the 5th and 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to make the score 12-4 at that stage. Lack of concentration on the part of the Redcoats in the top of the 7th and final inning resulted in a 5 run 7th inning for the Curves, but it wasn’t enough as the Redcoats recorded their first ever victory, 12-9.

It was a great team effort with every player making contributions with the bat or with the glove. Giulia Lateo, playing in the outfield despite being sick, had 2 hits with 2 RBIs and scored 3 runs also making two important put-outs. Michelle Grima had a terrific game going 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs and scoring 2 runs as well. Kacey Grima was as consistent as ever with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Pitcher Marlene Saliba, again playing with an injury, had a hit and an RBI. Nancy Portelli had a great day as well with 2 RBIs in the 1st game and another 2 RBIs in the 2nd game and also made 2 put-outs while playing in left field. Kirsty Bonnici had a hit and scored a run.

Estelle Scicluna was also outstanding going 3-for-3 scoring 2 runs while also making some fine defensive plays at 2nd base. Another key performer was Jasmine Bonnici, with 2 hits, scoring 2 runs with an RBI as well. She also had a good game playing at short stop with 5 assists and 2 put-outs. Miguela Xuereb scored a run and also came big defensively with an important put-out in the outfield to end the 6th inning. Margaret Farrugia also contributed with a base hit, an RBI and scored a run.
