The Club is quite keen to continue to develop these young players, especially the group of very promising girls so that they could join the softball team who has recently brought much success to the Redcoats
For the 4th consecutive year the Ghajnsielem Redcoats hosted the MAY DAY BASEBALL FESTIVAL at the Għajnsielem Ground. This event was held in collaboration with the GOZO SPORTS BOARD and with the Ministry for Gozo.
From the U13 squad the Redcoats formed two teams with the first one made up mainly of girls where as the second team was all boys. The Luxol Mustangs once again kept their appointment and they were joined by the members of Dingli Softball. Two games were played.
In the first game the combined Luxol Dingli team took a 6-3 lead early on, but the girls’ team of the Redcoats managed to come back, scoring four runs in the final inning to tie the game 8-8.
In the second game the Redcoats’ boys’ team gave up four runs in the top of the 1st inning, but then settled down and only conceded just another run the rest of the game. The Redcoats scored three runs in the bottom of the first, and four runs in the bottom of the 3rd to win the game 7-5.
After the two games, medals were presented to both sets of players along with a commemorative trophy to each team.
Overall this was a great experience for both sets of players on a wonderful sunny Wednesday afternoon. The Redcoats performed much better than they did on Saturday in Marsa. Despite having the talent on the squad split, both of the two Redcoats teams were very competitive. The Club is quite keen to continue to develop these young players, especially the group of very promising girls so that they could join the softball team who has recently brought much success to the Redcoats.
