In an effort to promote the game and to provide an opportunity for the younger participants to play baseball and softball, the Malta Baseball & Softball Association is organising a series of U10 tournaments with the first one taking place today at the Marsa Sports Complex.

The Ghajnsielem Redcoats participated in this event along with the other three youth clubs based in Malta, the Mellieha Baseball & Softball Club, Luxol Mustangs and Verdala Falcons. Out of 30 eligible Redcoats players, 14 answered the call and made the early Sunday morning trip to Malta. Each and every player who travelled to Marsa did extremely well which goes to show that the efforts of the coaching staff of the club is making a very positive impact on the young athletes.

Coaches Steve Ellis, Charles Attard, Joseph Scicluna and Tahli Moore accompanied the players. In order to give equal playing time to all those who made the trip, the players were split into two teams. Dosithee Attard, Neil Mizzi, Courtney Attard, Somaya Muscat, Matthew Spiteri, Luca Lateo, and Jerome Hili were on the first team. Steve Bajada, Geordie Ellis, Gilbert Scicluna, Chris Mercieca, Jeremy Attard, Paul Muscat, and Blake Sciberras were on the second team.

Both teams did really well with the players making several outstanding defensive plays. The hitting was also very good. The players showed that they have a lot of enthusiasm for the game. It was a real joy to watch especially for the parents who accompanied the players. The Ghajnsielem Redcoats would like to thank the Association for organising the event as well as the parents who made it possible for their children to participate. While we look forward to the next event organised by the Association, the Redcoats have their annual BOXING DAY BASEBALL/SOFTBALL FESTIVAL to look forward to on December 26. The Redcoats expect to have four teams for this U12 in-house event.

Best wishes for Christmas to all the baseball/softball minors players and their parents.
