The game against the Curves in Mellieha valid for the MABS Women’s Fastpitch Softball Tournament was an opportunity for the players of Redcoats Softball to put into practice what they learned during the RUN THE BASES training camp. The Redcoats had to call upon the services of Tara Henry as they were missing three players, while Monique Attard was playing with an injury in her right hand. Redcoats starting pitcher Estelle Scicluna performed better than her previous outing.

It was a game that the Redcoats should have won but lost 5-7. Although the loss was very disappointing there were several positives for the Redcoats to take from the game. Marilise Vella, one of the most promising players on the squad, played very well at 2nd base registering two put-outs. She also made good contact with the ball and was robbed of a base hit by an outstanding defensive play. Despite fielding two teams the Redcoats were still competitive. The performances of the two teams against the Curves have demonstrated that there is depth in the squad and should the two teams come together they will be very hard to beat.

The game was a very special one for the Redcoats as they had Stanley Doney, currently one of the best coaches in Europe having won the Dutch Golden League and the European Cup Winners Cup with Olympia Haarlem this summer, as they coach. It was also special as they had for a teammate Tara Henry, a four-year letterwinner at UCLA from 2004-2007, where she was a member of the 2004 Division I National Championship team. During her career, the Bruins went to three straight WCWS and in her senior season she posted a team leading .400 batting average in PAC-10 Conference play. She is currently ranked 6th among the all-time leaders in career stolen bases with 43 at UCLA.

Next game for Redcoats Softball is against their squad mates, Ghajnsielem Redcoats, on Sunday, November 19, at the Sannat Ground.
