Coach Steve Ellis had good reason to be please with his players as they showed good progress beating the league favourites

The Ghajnsielem Redcoats defeated the Verdala Falcons 10-6 in a game valid for the MABS Baseball Major League at the Marsa Sports Complex on Sunday.

It was a fine performance by starting pitcher Miguel Fenech who got the win. Neil Said came in relief to record a 3-up-3-down inning for the save, striking out two of the three batters he faced. He also caught a line drive for the other out of the inning. Neil helped his team with the bat as well, hitting a 2-run home run to put the game out of reach for Verdala. Jeremy Grech, Miguel Fenech, and Gianfranco Gatt also had important hits, with Jeremy batting in two runs with a triple in the top of the first inning. Nicholas Falzon also had a good game playing catcher.

Coach Steve Ellis had good reason to be please with his players as they showed good progress beating the team who was favourite to win the championship with a great team effort. Neil Said scored 1 run and had 3RBIs, Geordie Ellis 2 runs, Nicholas Falzon 2 runs, Jeremy Grech 2 runs & 2 RBIs, Miguel Fenech 1 RBI, Isaac Azzopardi 1 run, and Sebastian Portelli scored a run as well. Pitching coach Charles Attard was also satisfied with both pitchers as they managed to get the job done. Well done boys!

In a game valid for the MABS Baseball Intermediate League the Redcoats lost 3-11 against the Verdala Falcons also at the Marsa Sports Complex. Despite the loss it was a good experience for many players who were participating in their first ever player-pitch baseball game. Daniel Borg, Isaac Azzopardi and Gianfranco Gatt all made solid contact with the ball for base hits. This group of players can do much better once they gain some experience. The next game is on Friday March 31, against Mellieha.
